The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has made public the results of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. This announcement was delivered by Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, in Lagos.

Mr. Areghan noted an improvement in the pass rate among candidates. Among a total of 1,613,733 candidates who participated, 1,361,608 candidates, which accounts for 84.38 percent, achieved credit grades or higher in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language or Mathematics. Additionally, 1,287,920 candidates, representing 79.81 percent of the total, secured credit grades or higher in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics.

It’s worth mentioning that a portion of the results is being withheld by WAEC. Specifically, the results of 262,803 candidates have been held back due to reported cases of examination malpractice.
