Why IELTS Is Not Difficult To Pass

0

Why is the IELTS not difficult to pass? Before we answer that question, let’s take a look at what IELTS is, and what the test consists of.

What is IELTS?

IELTS means International English Language Testing System. Whenever you hear the word IELTS, you now know what it means.

IELTS doesn’t have to be for everyone, but it could be for you.

IELTS is taken by over three million people yearly, and it is accepted by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools, and immigration bodies around the world.

Some time ago, in Nigeria, a number of prospective international students applying to schools in the UK, Australia, and other schools in Europe, signed a petition to discontinue the writing of IELTS for Nigerians and other students whose language of communication is English. As a result of several emails forwarded to different schools, a Nigerian, Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi PhD., was able to convince some schools to discontinue allowing Nigerian students to write IELTS.

Types of IELTS

Depending on the situation, you may be asked to take IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training.

IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic is suitable for those wanting to study in an English Speaking country or university.

This means that if your destination is directed at a place where the language of communication is solely English, you would be asked to take IELTS Academic.

IELTS General Training: IELTS General Training is required for migration to countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.

Which IELTS is Applicable To Me?

As we earlier stated, depending on the situation, you may be required to write IELTS Academic or General Training.

If you are moving to an English-speaking country, you need to take IELTS Academic, however, if you’re relocating due to work or immigration purposes, you would be required to take IELTS General Training Test.

IELTS Test Fee/Cost

IELTS fee or cost may vary depending on the type of test and country. Having said this, it is important to note that the fee for IELTS Academic and General Training is the same. You can access more information on IELTS via the authorised website: https://www.ielts.org/

IELTS History

The IELTS is a test conducted by the British Council in partnership with other bodies to assess prospective international students and immigrants in Australia, Canada, the UK, etc.

It is accepted by schools in the UK, Canada, Australia, and over 3000 schools in America. So, if you are planning to study in the US, ensure your schools require IELTS before taking the exam. Many have made the mistake of assuming IELTS is generally acceptable in all the colleges in America.

The IELTS has four stages; writing, reading, listening, and speaking sessions. No stage in the IELTS is beyond your capacity as long as your mode of instruction in primary, secondary (high school) and the university is the English Language

How To Get A Good IELTS Score

You can get a good score on the IELTS exam by adopting these methods:

Self-Practice

Self-practice gives you the opportunity of testing your readiness before the set date for your test. This means you get to see your score for each session and try again until you master it.

Self-Practice is important even though you already have a study centre or group. Self-practice is reliable among many students taking the IELTS. The good news is that you can self-practice on the IELTS website https://www.ielts.org/

Ask Questions

You should do well to ask a lot of questions from those who have taken the test before. One mistake that is currently made by IELTS takers is that they assume what the test should or shouldn’t be. Don’t do that! Ask questions and apply the steps highlighted in this post and you are good to go.

Have A Score In Mind

Some students do not fancy the spotlight. These students do what is required and simply anticipate a moderate score. Whereas, some tend to go the extra mile because they want the best result. Whichever you choose, ensure you have a clear score in mind.

IELTS Score

The IELTS score ranges from band 1 to band 9. To be considered for admission, job, or immigration, you should consider the meaning of each band score, ranging from  5 to 9.

5  – Modest

6  – Competent

7  – Good

8  – Very good

9  – Expert

According to Wikipedia, no minimum score is required to pass the test. In 2017, over 3 million tests were taken in more than 140 countries; up from 2 million tests in 2012.

In 2007, IELTS administered more than one million tests in a single 12-month period for the first time, making it the world’s most popular English Language Test for higher education and immigration.
