Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has recently taken steps to address student concerns by revising their fee structure. This decision was reached following a meeting between the University’s management and the Student Union on September 25th, 2023.

The meeting, which spanned several hours, was initiated by the University’s administration in response to persistent appeals from the Student Union for a reduction in the initially approved fees. While the Student Union leaders pushed for a 50% reduction, the University’s management clarified that the new fee adjustments were essential to sustain the institution’s operations efficiently.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, announced the revised fee structure as follows:

Humanities Students:

Returning students’ sundry charges, initially set at #89,200, have been reduced to #76,000.

New students in the Humanities will now pay #131,000, down from the initial #151,200.

Sciences and Technology Students:

Returning students’ charges have been lowered from #101,200 to #86,000.

New students in these faculties will pay #141,000 instead of the initial #163,200.

Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences Students:

Returning students in these faculties will now pay #109,000, down from #128,200.

New students in these faculties will pay #164,000, as opposed to the initial charges of #190,000.

Furthermore, the University’s management has approved a two-installment payment option for students, aiming to ease the financial burden. Students can now access the University portal to make their payments. This adjustment demonstrates the University’s commitment to addressing the concerns of its students while ensuring its sustainability.
