Embracing the Unique Skills in Every Child
Young students frequently experience anxiety about moving on to the next phase of life. Those who recently took the WAEC and JAMB exams may have noticed how quickly people praised young, talented kids who performed well in these tests.
Supporting students’ mental health has received a lot of attention recently since children who perform poorly on tests are more likely to experience sadness and have low self-esteem.
It is critical to emphasize the unique skills in every child. Every parent can witness to the fact that each child is unique, which implies that each child has something to contribute.
Here are some life lessons for students who are currently feeling down about themselves:
- Never giving up entails continuing to attempt even when you are convinced you cannot succeed and are tempted to give up. Whether you slow down or not, you should continue to try.
- Persistence, tenacity, and a will to never give up are some of the key elements of success. Do not give up, despite how much your body hurts and how much the scars seem to be tearing you down. Never turn down your dreams.
- Instead of being lazy and letting defeatism ruin you, it’s crucial to preserve. We frequently pick up these harmful habits from society, our environment, and our peers. Avoid letting your surroundings drive you to despair; instead, always hold onto the optimism that motivates endurance.
- If you fall 10 times, know that you are perfectly capable of standing up 11 times, as someone once stated. A C or D on an exam doesn’t describe you as a person, either. Test results are simply events; they don’t represent people.
A story was recounted about many fish who lived in a vast pond. Three Pisces are great friends who are usually together. They are never apart.
A fisherman arrives to this pond one day. He invites other fisherman to lower their nets after seeing a lot of fish. The three fish are terrified of being captured and slaughtered by the fishermen.
“We need to find another pond and get out of here quickly,” the wise fish among them adds. While one fish accepts, the other hesitates, believing that this pond is his home. “We must not act cowardly, this pond is our home,” he says.
The other two fish attempt and fail to persuade their friend. So they decide to split up and look for a different pond. When the fishermen arrive the next day, the fish that refused to leave is caught.
According to the story, in times of difficulty, we should constantly look at the larger picture and let go of temporary attachments.
Another anecdote about perseverance goes like this: One day, a man’s pet donkey slips from a steep cliff. He tries to free the donkey, but his efforts are futile. Disappointed, the man chooses to bury the unfortunate donkey.
He starts pouring dirt and sand from above. The stranded donkey feels the weight of the earth on his body and shrugs it off. The man returns to the dirt to water it. The donkey shakes him off once more. The man notices the donkey shaking the ground and soaking the soil bed, which acts as a form of elevation. He notices the donkey getting closer to the top. The donkey climbs higher with each load of earth poured.
After a few hours, the man continues to shovel dirt until he runs into the donkey again.
As a student, you must realize that there will be difficult times. When those difficulties arise, face them with confidence, for no issue is large enough to prevent you from climbing.
Failure is a necessary component of the process, which is another reason why it’s crucial to never give up. You will undoubtedly make mistakes or encounter setbacks at some time along your educational journey, regardless of how talented or committed you are. But in the end, your success will depend on how you handle these difficulties. Those who are able to bounce back after a setback and keep going are more likely to succeed than those who quit the moment things become tough. Therefore, embracing the unique skills in every child, will help accomplish that.
Additionally, overcoming obstacles and disappointments can foster resilience and the growth of vital abilities like critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptation. These are characteristics that people greatly value.
